Using Reflex (Auto-DM Triggers)
Automatically send a DM to followers when they comment a keyword on Instagram.
What is Reflex?
(Pro feature)
Reflex is a tool that works with Instagram. Say you make a post about a study, and at the end you write something like "Comment SOURCE to get the full paper." When someone comments "SOURCE," Fervae automatically sends them a direct message (DM) with the link. No manual effort from you.
This is a popular strategy for science communicators because it helps you share sources with engaged followers while also boosting your post's visibility. More comments means more reach on Instagram.
DM stands for "direct message." It's a private message sent to one person, as opposed to a public post or comment. On Instagram, DMs show up in the person's message inbox.
Setting up a Reflex
- Go to the Reflex section in the navigation.
- Pick which Instagram account you want to use (you'll need one connected in Settings).
- Choose your keyword. This is the word followers will comment. Common choices are "LINK," "SOURCE," "STUDY," or "INFO."
- Write the message you want them to receive. This could be a link to the paper, a PDF, a signup page, or any text you want.
- Turn it on.
Example
Say you post an infographic about a new climate study. In the caption, you write: "Want to read the full study? Comment PAPER below." You set up a Reflex with the keyword "PAPER" and the message containing the study link. Now every time someone comments "PAPER," they automatically get that DM.
Managing your Reflexes
You can turn any Reflex on or off at any time. The Reflex dashboard also shows you a log of how many DMs have been sent, so you can see how many people are engaging.
