Connecting Instagram

Instagram is one of the most commonly used platforms on Fervae, but it has the most setup requirements because of how Meta (Instagram's parent company) handles third-party apps.

Before you connect

You need two things set up before you try to connect Instagram to Fervae:

1. Switch to a Professional account

Fervae can only connect to Instagram Professional accounts (Business or Creator). Personal accounts won't work.

1. Open the Instagram app.
2. Go to Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account.
3. Choose either "Creator" or "Business." Creator is fine for most science communicators.
4. This is free and you can switch back anytime.

2. Link a Facebook Page

Meta requires every Instagram Professional account to be linked to a Facebook Page. Even if you never post on Facebook, you need one.

1. If you don't have a Page, create one on Facebook. It takes about 30 seconds and it can be blank.
2. In the Instagram app, go to Settings → Account → Linked accounts → Facebook, and connect your Page.

Connecting to Fervae

1. In Fervae, go to Settings → Brands & Accounts and click Connect next to Instagram.
2. You'll be taken to Facebook/Meta's authorization page. Log in with the Facebook account that owns the Page linked to your Instagram.
3. When asked which Pages and Instagram accounts to grant access to, make sure you select all of them. If you deselect any, the connection may not work.
4. Approve all requested permissions.
5. You'll be redirected back to Fervae with your Instagram account connected.
